Marc E. Nonnenkamp
Marc Evan Nonnenkamp was born in Elmhurst, New York and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor’s Degree in German Language and Literature in 1984. He has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Mason School of Business at The College of William and Mary in Virginia (class of 1987) and worked in commercial banking in the Bay Area, in Hamburg, Germany and Atlanta before entering his current career in tax accounting in 1993.
He has written two books on the Volkswagen Group of Germany, three books on the Navies of Germany and Austria, two books on scale model collectible toy cars and one book about the Borromeo family of Cebu City, the Philippines. His aunt worked for Volkswagen of Canada, initially with Mr. J. Stewart Perkins who became the President of Volkswagen of America, Inc. in the USA. His family has owned four Volkswagens, it being his favorite automotive brand. Both of Marc Nonnenkamp’s books on VW are part of the historical archive collection of Volkswagen A.G. in Wolfsburg, Germany. “Volkswagen: a Car for the People” is featured in a book review written by Mr. Glen Smale of “Vehicle Engineer International” of the UK.
His paternal grandfather served in the interwar German “Reichsmarine” from 1924 to 1936, aboard the Pre-Dreadnought Battleship “Braunschweig,” the sailing ship “Bremen” (a training vessel) and aboard the Pocket Battleship “Deutschland.” His maternal grandfather Andres Borromeo y Reynes was a famous provincial Judge in the Philippines. All three of Marc Nonnenkamp’s books on the German and the Austrian Navies are endorsed by the California Center for Military History in Eureka (part of the California National Guard). “The German and the Austrian Navies” is featured in a book review written by Walter “Winn” Price of the U.S. Naval Historical Foundation.
His book on the Borromeo family of Cebu is featured by the Borromeo Family Country Hotel in Milan, Italy (the home of the Borromeo family of Italy).
Marc Nonnenkamp’s two books on toy cars are endorsed by Hornby Hobbies, a large toymaker in the United Kingdom. Hornby owns famous British toy brands such as Corgi and Lledo. His books have official Corgi catalogue illustrations.
